THE DISTRACTIONS BOX
(A Clear-Your-Mind Exercise)
Do you sometimes feel that your head is too full? Full of distractions that stop you being able to focus, concentrate and think clearly? This exercise will help you to put these distractions aside for a while so you can get on with doing what you need to do.
Imagine a large empty box in front of you.
- What does it look like?
- What is it made of?
- Can you see inside it?
Now think about all the things that are distracting you at the moment. Picture them one by one and as you see them, place them inside the large box in front of you. Whether they are big or small, in the future or in the past, picture anything at all that is distracting you and place it in the box. Keep going until all your distractions are inside the box.
Once all your distractions are in your box imagine putting the lid firmly on the top of the box, keeping all your distractions firmly inside.
- Picture placing this box inside a rocket.
Now stand back, countdown from 10 to 1, and watch as the rocket launches up into space.
With the distractions out of sight up in space, you should now be feeling:
- much more focused!
- able to concentrate!
- able to think clearly!
You could try imagining all kinds of distraction boxes each time you do this clear-your-mind exercise. See how creative you can be!
