An Attitude for Gratitude
Do you ever find yourself thinking about the things you don’t have and getting annoyed? Maybe a friend has a new gadget or toy and you feel jealous that you don’t have one. It is amazing how quickly we can start feeling dissatisfied with what we have and think that everyone else has better things than we do.
GRATITUDE is about focusing on what we DO have. If we spent time focussing on the good things we have in our life then our brain starts to feel more positive and we are able to feel better about ourselves very quickly.
Try writing down 3 things every day that you are grateful for. This is called a gratitude list or gratitude diary. People who do this find that they feel much more positive about themselves and happier in general. These could be small things or big things. They could be physical things that you have, people in your life, things that you have achieved, or activities that you have enjoyed. Try to be a varied as you can and include lots of different things in your gratitude lists.
Here are some examples of things you could be grateful for:
- Your home
- Your family
- Books you enjoy reading
- The food that you eat
- Your friends
- Sports or activities you enjoy playing
Take time to read through the lists that you make. Reading about all the positive things you have in your life on a regular basis makes this exercise even more effective.
