RETRAIN YOUR BRAIN Not To Feel So Scared!

Sometimes we get scared about a situation that keeps occurring and this can be stressful. Wouldn’t it be great if we could retrain our brain not to feel so scared?

Here is a simple exercise called ‘The Swish’ that can help retrain your brain to be less scared and to feel brave and confident instead:
Children's Magazines for 12 year olds

Picture in your head a situation that always makes you feel scared.

While holding that image in your head, in the bottom left hand corner picture how you would prefer to feel and act instead.

Now with a 1-2-3-SWISH make the small left-hand picture spread and cover up the old picture. Hold that new picture in your head and focus on how good it feels to feel this new way.

Now make the picture disappear!

See the old picture once again, but this time make it faded, blurry or black and white. Add the new picture in the bottom left corner and make it clear, bright and colourful.

Magazines for 8 year olds

With a 1-2-3-SWISH cover the old faded picture with the new one. As before, hold the new picture in your head and focus on how good it feels to feel this new way.

Repeat this exercise as many times as you need to until you can’t see the old picture in your head anymore.

This is a very easy way to retrain your brain to react differently to things. You could use this exercise in all kinds of situations.
